The Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks meet Friday night for an early-season test that demands more than just historical pedigree. At this stage of the schedule, it is less about the jersey crest and everything about which roster has the structural discipline to avoid self-inflicted wounds in their own zone. Expect the game to hinge on which coaching staff can better manage their defensive pairings under pressure, as neither team can afford to trade chances if they want to find any consistency in their transition game.
Winning this one will require a clean sheet from the crease and the ability to dictate the tempo through the neutral zone. If you’ve been tracking the special teams efficiency for these clubs, you know that a single power-play breakdown could be the difference between a controlled effort and a chaotic night.
