The Guangzhou Open begins qualifying play on Court 6 Friday, as Polina Iatcenko hosts Alexandra Shubladze in a Women's Singles match scheduled for 11:00 PM EDT. Both Russians arrive from the same country, each tasked with navigating the opening round of qualifying to keep their tournament hopes alive. Court 6 draws the night session, and the qualifying stakes are decisive: the winner moves forward in the bracket while the loser exits the event. The late start time and the court’s isolated assignment add a quiet pressure as both players look to establish rhythm from the first point.
